Windows 10 Launches July 29; Free Upgrade for Windows 7 and 8.1 Users

by Stephen Cole on June 17, 2015

Windows 10 will be available for retail purchase and included with all new PCs on July 29th, 2015. Existing users of Windows 7 and 8.1 will be able to upgrade to 10 for no charge. If you have a qualifying version of Windows 7 or 8.1 now, you will see an icon in the taskbar that will prompt you to reserve your free upgrade to Windows 10. How long you can reserve your upgrade before actually installing it is not known yet. The upgrade will be downloaded via Windows Updates. On July 29 users will be given the choice to update their computers to Windows 10. How well the update process works will remain to be seen. The best advice is to hold off until others have made the plunge. Any major upgrading issues will be well publicized, allowing users to wait until fixes are released before pulling the cord on their current version of Windows.
